In April and May 2020, we are proud to have supported one of our customers in the semiconductor industry on their shipments to Frankfurt. With 12 charters planned (at least 1 every week), we keep the supply chains running for both our customer and their downstream clients as well.

We Ensure the Well Being of our Staff and are Socially Responsible
From 2nd June 2020, under the announced Phase One: Safe Re-opening after the Circuit Breaker period, we will continue enforcing our current safe management measures at our workplaces (e.g. telecommuting, work from home arrangements and the use of contact tracing tool - SafeEntry) until the government’s announcement that it could be lifted.
We Remain Well-Poised to Support You
There are no significant updates since our last advisory on 4 th May 2020. Our Air, Ocean, Land freight and Contract Logistics services across all sites remain functional. For staff that are required to operate on-site, they will adhere to our strict social distancing guidelines, and be given the appropriate protective gear such as surgical masks.
Seaway bills, telex-releases and surrender BLs for Ocean Freight are still recommended as measures to avoid physical document exchange and to save time even after the Circuit Breaker period.
Country Lockdown / Restriction Status (as at 22nd May 2020)
The chart below (non-exhaustive) shows country lockdown / restriction status based on country announcements made in the public domain. We hope that this gives you better a perspective of the situation of the world at large. Do note that this information is accurate at the time of writing, and is expected to change due to the volatility of the COVID-19 situation. With capacity constraints and country specific restrictions, services to these countries will be impacted, but we will continually source for options to support your logistics needs.
This week the number of scheduled flights operating is down by 68% compared to the same week last year, fractionally less than we saw last week.
Many countries continue to maintain restrictions on air passenger arrivals, and frequency reductions in many markets appear to have stabilised. India, was supposed to come out of lockdown this week and the airline schedule reflect this. However, a last minute extension of the lockdown for a further two weeks means that air services will continue to be affected.
Europe has seen the most extensive contraction of air services of any world region over the past 2 months. While European countries, including France, Ireland, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, are in the process of easing their lockdown conditions, there is a lot of caution and air travel, especially international air travel, continues to be widely restricted.
Extraordinary Times Call For Exceptional Teams
With COVID-19 still rampant across the globe, countries remain cautious in lockdowns. Likewise Singapore has extended its circuit breaker till 1st June 2020. Please refer to our lockdown summary in the following page. Shown below is a message from our Chief Executive Officer.

In accordance with guidelines from the government, effective 1st May 2020, Schenker Singapore has successfully implemented SafeEntry at all our facilities and programs, a national digital check-in system which logs visits by individuals to various venues. This will facilitate Contact Tracing efforts by the authorities if necessary.

Country Lockdown / Restriction Status
The charts below provide a good perspective on the year-on-year decline of global scheduled flights because of country lockdowns (Passenger and Freighter), with focus on Singapore in the second chart.
Globally, the number of scheduled flights is now down by 67% compared to the same week last year.
Reductions in capacity appear to have stabilized in the past 2-3 weeks. We will continue to monitor the situation closely, and keep you abreast of any solutions for your cargo needs.
Today marks the 11th day of the circuit breaker. We hope you and your families are keeping well. Here are some Schenker Singapore related and industry updates that may be of use to you.
Exemption from suspension of activities
Schenker Singapore, being in Transportation and Storage, is classified under essential services. We have received the official approval from the Ministry of Trade and Industry that we are able to continue with operations during the circuit breaker period.
Schenker Singapore remains fully operational across all our sites.
Global Airfreight Updates
The global demand situation remains strong especially ex China as the transportation of medical equipment, masks, protective suits, etc. is very strong. This additional demand is increasing pressure on the already short capacity situation. Additional charter flights (freighter and passenger cargo flights) are the only solution leading to continuous pressure on airfreight rates in the market. In general, this demand is expected to continue within the next weeks due to global demand for medical equipment across all regions and countries as COVID-19 continues.
Global Ocean Freight Updates
Close to 250 sailings have been announced as blanked for the period April / May and additional announcements come in every day. These activities equal about 25 to 30% capacity cap on the trunk routes. Though China could go again on full production, it is unclear for the remaining world how and when the market returns to normality and how normality will look. The longer-term outlook is unclear. Carriers are very eager to ensure stable revenue and not to allow any rate compromises. It remains to be seen whether this position can be sustained during the month of May as a significant drying up of volumes must be expected within the next 2 weeks.
Global Airfreight Capacity
While belly-hold capacity remains very low, we are actively sourcing for chartered options on either freighters or passenger aircraft. Please approach your sales account managers with volume projections for us to work on solutions for you.

With the circuit breaker coming into effect today, here are some important updates on the actions and measures that we have taken.
Schenker Singapore, being in Transportation and Storage, is classified under essential services. Adhering to the government’s guidelines, we have applied for this exemption on 3rd April 2020, the day the circuit breaker was announced.
Enhanced Safety and Safe Distancing Measures
Mandatory Mask Wearing
Effective 9th April 2020, onsite personnel at all our facilities will be required to wear surgical masks.
This applies to both staff and external vendors, such as delivery agents / vendors. No one will be allowed into our facilities without a mask.

Common Staff
Areas For staff that are required to work onsite, common areas such as the pantry, lift and work stations have been properly marked out in terms of usable space.
Restriction of movement of transporters / agents
Our loading bay area is also delineated to restrict the movements of transporters who enter our facility. Detailed in the picture below, there is a clear demarcation of the limits to where our agents can move within our facility.

We will Continue to Work Hard for You
The Singapore government announced on 3rd April 2020 on the closure of most workplaces, with the exception of essential services and key economic sectors, effective 7th April to 4th May 2020. (The definition of Essential Services can be found at the end of this circular.)
Schenker Singapore, being in the Logistics and Transportation industry, is classified under essential services, and our offices and warehouses will remain operational. We will continue to support you in your air freight, ocean freight, trucking and contract logistics needs. We will however, enact stricter social distancing measures, explained below.
We are being Socially Responsible
In line with government guidelines, all office-based employees, where possible, will be working from home. For the minority of staff who need to be based in the office, we have delineation of work boundaries by sections to minimize contact.
Operations staff have been split into smaller teams and shifts, with no contact across shifts. These measures ensure that we remain functional and effective.
Service Updates
Air and Ocean Freight
Import and Export services in Singapore remain operational with no impact on our capacity. Air and Ocean freight services are considered essential services and exempted from suspension. The airport, seaport, terminal services, customs clearance and trucking services remain unaffected by the suspension.
Contract Logistics
All Schenker Singapore Contract Logistics sites remain fully operational with appropriate employee health and safety measures in place. Since March, we have worked with our customers on BCP with additional shifts and significant effort to support their volume and achieved excellent Quarter end results. Staffing at all sites remain on track and we continue to review possible scenarios in protecting our staff and the business volumes of our customers.
Land Transport
Local transportation and cross border trucking are not affected and in full operation. We do our utmost to maintain our high service levels and to secure lead times. As some receivers closed their operations due COVID-19, we seek your support to check delivery possibility with the consignees.
We are Actively Providing Solutions
Capacity in the Airfreight market has reduced significantly, with the vast majority of Pax flights cancelled. We are working closely with our airline partners to secure space on Freighters and even charter options (both PAX and CAO). Shown below is a summary of our current export flight options to the major lanes this week. We are constantly on the look out for new options where available, and will share anything pertinent to your business with you.

Air Freight
With travel restrictions imposed in multiple countries worldwide, Singapore Airlines announced today that they would be cutting around 96% of their passenger fights till end April 2020. Many other carriers have announced similar measures, almost completely reducing our export passenger flight cargo capacity.
Freighter options remain limited, and we are working hard with our airline partners to secure space for your shipments.
There has been a significant surge in rates and all quotations moving forward will be on spot basis, and subject to change. Our sales team will reach out to you for possibilities around uplift capacity & rates.
